Katherine Family Medical Practice Closure

After four years of dedicated service to the Katherine community, Katherine Family Medical Practice announces that it will be closing its doors on 28 March 2025. This decision comes with a heavy heart, but with a great sense of pride in what we have accomplished and gratitude for the support of the Katherine region.

A History of Community-Centred Care

Katherine Family Medical Practice was founded in 2021 to address a critical gap in local healthcare services following the closure of the only private medical clinic in Katherine. At that time, access to general practice care became increasingly limited, leaving many residents without a local GP. Our goal was simple: to ensure that every individual in Katherine had access to quality healthcare when they needed it most.

In the years since, Katherine Family Medical Practice has been proud to provide a wide range of medical services, from preventative care and routine health checks to the treatment of chronic conditions and urgent health issues. Our team of doctors, nurses, and support staff has worked tirelessly to create an environment of trust and care, offering the Katherine community the services it so deeply needed.

The Changing Landscape of Healthcare in Katherine

Since the opening of Katherine Family Medical Practice, the healthcare landscape in Katherine has evolved. Today, there are two other private medical practices operating in town, contributing to a more diverse healthcare environment. While we are proud to have been part of the initial response to the healthcare gap, we are confident that the increased availability of GP services will continue to support the health of the community moving forward.

What This Means for Our Patients

As we prepare for the closure on 28 March 2025, we want to reassure all of our patients that we are committed to ensuring a smooth transition. We will be working closely with patients to ensure their medical records are securely transferred to a new healthcare provider, and we will assist in any way possible to help them find continued care. For those with ongoing treatment or prescriptions, we encourage them to reach out to our office to ensure they have everything they need before the closure date.

Additionally, our team is here to answer any questions patients may have during this transition period. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to make this process as seamless as possible for everyone.

While the decision to close the practice has not been an easy one, we take with us the immense satisfaction of knowing we played a key role in improving access to healthcare in Katherine when it was most needed. It has been a privilege to serve the Katherine community, and we are deeply grateful to all of our patients for their trust, loyalty, and support over the past few years.

We would also like to take this opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to NT PHN (Northern Territory Primary Health Network) and Katherine Hospital for their unwavering support and guidance throughout our time in operation.  Their collaboration and assistance have been invaluable in helping us navigate the challenges of providing healthcare in a remote community, and we are truly grateful for their partnership.

We will continue to provide the highest level of care until our final day of operation, and we thank everyone who has been part of our story.
